Plant variable cost refers to the expenses in manufacturing or production that fluctuate in direct proportion to the volume of goods produced. Unlike fixed costs, which remain constant regardless of production levels, variable costs are directly tied to the quantity of output. Variable costs may include expenses such as raw materials, direct labor, utilities, and costs associated with the production process.
